IDE won’t run after BDS2006 Update 2

If you have the problem in the post title, here’s the fix.

How to Run InterBase 7.5 Developer Edition as a Service

If you got InterBase 7.5 with BDS / Delphi 2006 or JBuilder 2006 and want to run it as a service, you’ll need to make a small tweak to the service configuration.

IB 7.5.1 Service Pack 1 for BDS 2006 / Delphi 2006 Owners

For some reason Borland hasn’t put InterBase 7.5.1 Service Pack 1 on the BDS / Delphi 2006 registered users site. But you can get it here. If you’re using the version of IB which came with D2006, I recommend this upgrade, which is free. Note that this file only works with IB 7.5.1 servers; it cannot be applied to 7.5.0 or earlier releases as far as I know. So check which version you’re using before you apply it.

Debugging Basics: The Call Stack

Every now and again someone will ask why they’re seeing a certain exception in their Delphi code in the Borland newsgroups, and I’ll frequently ask for a call stack so that I can give them a more accurate answer. I’m surprised at how often the response is, "How do I do that?" since to me the call stack is probably the debugging tool I use most frequently. So I’ve written a short introduction to the call stack.
