Slow Connections with IB 7.5.1 and Hyper-Threading Servers

When you enable hyper-threading on an InterBase 7.5.1 server, you need to make one additional tweak to ibconfig:

There is a known problem with InterBase 7.5.1 where when Hyperthreading is enabled in the ibconfig file, and maxthreads in the ibconfig file is 1,000,000 or unchanged, connections are slow. To resolve the problem change maxthreads in ibconfig to value other than 1,000,000 and restart the InterBase server process.

i have problems in posting on InterBase forums, probably awaiting activation from admins. hope i could post my query here.

i have hyperthreading probs with ibconfig.

i’m running with Mobile Intel Pentium4 3.2Ghz (538) with HT

256 on board RAM and 512, upgrade.

i had fresh install of windows xp home/SP2 and a fresh install of interbase 7.5.1

i’m using interbase 7.5.1 together with BDE on my apps. with BDE, i can connect to databases, and in ibconsole, i can connect databases and even edit data, run scripts. but my apps don’t seem to work at first.

then i tweaked the ibconfig to enable hyperthreading and MAX_THREADS to 1, all my apps worked fine for a few computer shutdowns and hibernation.

then one day, all my apps don’t run anymore. i tried all possible reconfiguring ibconfig, my apps don’t run anymore.

even tried cpu affinity, ANY_LOCK MEM SIZE, V4_LOCKMEMSIZE, all to no effect.

    am i missing something?

You should post your question to the newsgroups. When you do, be very specific about what your problem is and what you have tried so far to diagnose the issue. "My apps don’t run" could mean just about anything, and it’s hard to provide help based on so little information.

Your problem is probably not an InterBase issue since IBConsole works, but we may be able to help you fix your applications.

You don’t need to register to use the newsgroups. Just point your newsreader at nntp://newsgroups.borland.com/borland.public.interbase.general

    If you don’t have a newsreader, there’s a web interface at http://newsgroups.borland.com
