InterBase 7.5 Desktop Upgrade Tips

The instruction screen that is displayed when you select the download
(http or ftp) on Borland.com is an abbreviated instruction that may
leave you short. Instead, unpack the zip file after you download it and
print IBSetup.html from the zip. It is 13 pages but includes more
detailed upgrade instructions.

MAX_THREADS default incorrect on InterBase 7.5

An IB 7.5 regression which is easy to work around:
If MAX_THREADS is not set in the ibconfig file, InterBase 7.1 defaults to setting MAX_THREADS to 1 on single CPU systems and to 1000000 on systems with more than one CPU.

Another Undocumented Feature in InterBase 7.5 — ORDER BY and Column Aliases

The ORDER BY clause of a SELECT statement now allows you to order by a field name which has been renamed using the AS operator. In previous versions, you had to order by the field number instead.

Addtional Information on TMP$HEAPS and TMP$TRIGGERS Tables

InterBase 7.5 introduces two new system temporary tables, TMP$HEAPS and TMP$TRIGGERS. InterBase Performance Monitor in IB 7.5 introduces support for these tables, as well. The BDN article linked in the title contains additional discussion on these new tables written by their architect.
